Jojoba Seed Oil (Simmondsia chinensis)
|
Jojoba oil is the liquid wax produced in the seed of the jojoba plant, a shrub native to southern Arizona, southern California and northwestern Mexico. The oil makes up approximately 50% of the jojoba seed by weight.
Jojoba oil has many uses in a wide variety of industries.
As a cosmetic, it is an effective cleanser, conditioner, moisturizer, and softener for the skin and hair. It is applied directly to the skin to soften the skin, to reduce wrinkles and stretch marks, to lighten and help heal scars, and to promote healthy scalp and hair. Jojoba oil is similar to, and miscible with, sebum, which is secreted by human sebaceous glands to lubricate and protect skin and hair. When sebum production decreases due to age, pollutants, or environmental stresses, jojoba oil can be used to replicate sebum oil. Jojoba oil can accumulate around hair roots, thereby conditioning hair and preventing it from becoming brittle and dull. If there is too much sebum buildup on the scalp, it dissolves and removes the sebum, leaving the hair clean. Jojoba oil as a solubilizing agent can also remove sticky buildup on hair from hair preparations as well as airborne particulates deposited on the hair. It forms a lipid layer on the skin, acting as a moisturizer, as well as penetrating and being absorbed by the outer layer of skin. It is widely used as an ingredient in shampoos, conditioners, facial, hand and body lotions, cuticle and nail care products, baby care lotions, creams, and oils, cleansers, moisturizers, bath oils and soaps, sunscreen lotions, and makeup products. Jojoba oil is also used as a base in the manufacture of perfume.
The potential therapeutic uses of jojoba oil include the treatment of acne, cold sores, and such skin diseases as psoriasis.
Although jojoba is generally categorized with vegetable oils, jojoba is actually a liquid wax. Jojoba offers the traits of both an oil and a wax to make it an ideal ingredient within soap, cream, lotion, balm and massage oil formulations. It is highly penetrating and closely resembles the natural sebum within our skin. We use jojoba in facial formulations to remove excess oils and to help balance the skin's natural oil. Jojoba contains a natural anti-inflammatory called myristic acid and is useful in formulations for arthritis and rheumatism. It has natural anti-oxidant properties and is said to help extend the shelf life of other oils. Our jojoba is pressed only once from the seeds. Minimum pressure is used to obtain a finer quality oil. It is then pasteurized and filtered. The resulting liquid wax possesses a natural golden color and the characteristic aroma of natural jojoba.
Hydrogenated Jajoba (Jojoba Spheres).

Gentle enough for daily use, Jojoba Spheres provide a reassuring, mechanical exfoliation to your cleansing formulations. Jojoba Spheres are naturally derived from the purest Jojoba available; making them gentler and more marketable than other abrasive, ground exfolients or polyethylene materials and they are organically grown.
Where Used: Jojoba Spheres' natural benefits are most widely used in cleansing products and in skin care formulations. In cleansing products, Jojoba Spheres provide gentle, natural exfoliation in body washes and shower gels, facial washes, foot scrubs and soap bars.
History: Jojoba is an all natural & cruelty free American plant indigenous to the Sonoran desert. Native Americans have used Jojoba for centuries to treat skin disorders (including sores, cuts, bruises and burns) and to improve hair condition and shine. More recently, Jojoba has been used for everything from personal care formulas, to specialty lubricants, to food supplements and dietary aids. Jojoba seeds are processed through state of the art expeller presses. The finest grade of clear, odorless liquid Jojoba is then hydrogenated to create this fully saturated wax ester from which Jojoba Spheres are made, providing all the benefits in a solid form.
